PETE GILL Pete Gill has taught for many years in art schools and colleges of Further Education and studied Fine Art at the Newport College of Art where he obtained a first class honours degree. His last teaching post prior to painting and delivering workshops full time was as a Learning Director at Derby College. Pete Gill has exhibited extensively throughout Britain and has produced work to commision. Various paintings and prints are held in private collections. Pete has been and exhibitor for many years at the Wirksworth Art festival and Architecture trail. He as also exhibited at the Ropewalk Art Gallery (Barton-on-Humber), Crich contemporary Arts and Crafts, Melbourne contemporary Arts and Crafts and many others. In 2003 Gill was awarded a commendation in the Derbyshire Open Competition, Buxton and had work accepted in 2004. Peter was a recent winner of the Derbyshire Open Print Trophy. Peter's work sees recent themes of the foreshore, coastline and Derbyshire landscape, which enable a continuing examination of of the relationship between colour and structure and sees a gradual disolving between the representation and partial abstraction. |

This workshop explores Chine Collee and Drypoint which are extensions to collagraph printmaking.
Chine Collee is a method of printmaking where handmade and selected papers are collaged to the print and become an integral part of the image. The workshop will explore the process using collagraph blocks and oil based inks.
Dry Point is a method of printmaking where a sharp point is used to incise line and texture on the plate or block prior to inking and printing. Rembrandt was a famous exponent of this technique and would often work direct into copper plates in the landscape.

The workshop will explore a range of techniques and materials which can be combined to develop surfaced/impasto painting. During the day you will learn how to add materials to acrylic paint in order to create various texture and body. A one day workshop exploring a range of techniques and effects which can be achieved without using a brush. A key feature of this workshop is to identify and exploit the specific effects and characteristics which are a direct result of the materials, media and implements used in each technique. During the workshop you will be encouraged to consider how the effects achieved can be employed in the development of composition in conjunction with more familiar brush techniques and with your own themes and subject matter. Other materials will be available on the day and charged for all depending on the amount used. These materials will include; other types of glue, a selection of papers and canvas board and card for grounds and masking tape etc.
COLLAGRAPH PRINT WORKSHOP with Pete Gill (One day workshop)
This method of printmaking is relatively new and has created a great deal of interest. The process involves using a variety of materials which can be stuck onto a card base to create surface texture. Another method of creating the block involves cutting and peeling the surface combined with application of PVA glue. The two methods can also be combined. Once constructed the block is sealed with varnish or shellac, inked using a similar method to that associated to an intaglio plate and printed.
The process enables much invention and experimentation and employs materials which are relatively cheap and easy to obtain.

This method of printing is extremely flexible and enables diverse approaches to creating images. It is capable of allowing precise cutting and sticking as well as fluid and gestural methods of mark making.

Other necessary materials will be provided and charged to individual participants according to the amounts used. These include; 300gsm watercolour paper, wiping cloth, inks, card and materials for constructing the blocks, shellac etc.

This workshop explores a various methods and techniques used in acrylic painting. The medium is very flexible offering the possibility of a wide range of techniques and approaches. Additives and mediums can be used in conjunction with the pigments in order to change and extend the charachteristics.
