Description

Atmospheric Seascapes in Oil..... "A rough day at sea"

Tuition covers explaining use of and mixing colours; shape and brush techniques to realise a good sky - clouds wet/dry atmospherics. Explaining toning down using complimentaries to increase intensity of highlights (light and atmosphere).

Reflections of sea, rocks (highlights and sea-sprays) wet sand, foam patterns (base and spills) and scud line on beach. Brush techniques - many aspects of wet and dry applications.

Roy will continue with answering any questions and fit in as much as time allows.

The workshop starts with an outline sketch of the proposed seascape and teaching will be by demonstration of each step throughout the workshop.  Roy will teach the background enabling you to paint directly onto the canvas board without any under painting or coloured ground.  Each area is painted in oil paint without the use of any additional medium.  Thinner is only used to clean the brushes which are then thoroughly dried on a cloth and kitchen paper, this is to avoid any thinner transferring to the canvas.

Roy’s Tip: when adding white highlights roll the brush while drawing it across the area to be highlighted thus avoiding picking up wet paint underneath. A special Rowney squirrel hair mop brush carefully blends the paint.
