Description
Drawing and Painting on Location
During this week I want to focus on recreating the emotional impact that the landscape has on you. Part of being an artist is capturing and holding onto ideas that you may have had at different times - maybe those strong feelings you have for a great summer holiday.
As emotion is completely subjective and individual to the artist it is the kind of work that can be done in the studio if the weather forbids us from venturing outside. Weather permitting, however, we will out on sketching trips please bring suitable clothing and footwear.
Above all the week is about enjoying being in the landscape and having fun with drawing and painting. There is no expectation on you to produce masterpieces, only to have a sense of freedom about your work. |
Description
Contemporary Painting Techniques
The course will focus on first impressions, textures, colour, shapes an ideal course to "loosen up" and give a fresh perspective to your painting! These workshop sessions are mostly about generating an open attitude towards your work. You don't have to continue working in this style, but everything different that you try can be incorporated and added to your own style of painting & drawing.
I like to think of the process of painting as being much more than just putting brush to canvas. The collection & use of source material is essential but in order to create a painting that is more than a representation of the landscape we must get away form the subject to allow the painting to exist in its own right. Using the ideas generated and emotions experienced.
No pressure! I don't expect everyone to have a finished work of genius at the end of the day. I would be far more excited to see a collection of vigorous, experimental drawings & paintings that try to capture the atmosphere of the place, than one perfectly described tree!
Painting isn't about paint it's about you! Painting is all about people & their experiences. The emotional reaction or personal feeling in choosing and working with a subject is as important, if not more important than the paint itself!
