Course Desciption- The Magic of Acrylics
Acrylic paint is the most versatile of all paints and the ideal starter paint for beginners. They allow the more experienced painter to create effects they cannot easily achieve with other mediums. Keith will show you how to paint beautiful acrylic paintings and atmospheric landscapes. They can be used to apply decorative art on stones, leather, masonry, wood etc and are perfect for painting large murals.
Acrylic paints do not dry any quicker than traditional watercolours when using them
as a watercolourist but when painting on canvas they are fairly fast drying, have no odour and spirits are not required. They are wonderful for glazing techniques and allow the artist to experience two methods of painting to help them decide which one suits them best or have two different approaches to painting.
The course will offer the opportunity to paint a wide range of subject matter from
atmospheric skies, mountain scenery, trees and foregrounds, water, buildings and
perspective, adding life to the landscape etc. The use of glazing techniques to add
sparkle and colour harmony to your landscapes will be demonstrated. The principles of design will be discussed throughout the course. Expect to take home several completed paintings both on watercolour paper and canvas. Keith's new book, 'Acrylic Landscapes in a Weekend' will be published by David and Charles in the Spring of 2009.
Members will complete at least two paintings on the course, plus lots of 'doodles'
to be included in their paintings, including simple techniques to represent figures,
horses, sheep, swans, geese etc in their landscapes.
